6 Foods To Avoid That Can Trigger Migraines

One of the most unpleasant things you can experience in your everyday life is the pounding and throbbing effect of migraine in your head. The feeling is very uncomfortable and all you want to do is to just take the pain right away if possible. 

Though stress is one of the most identified factors that causes migraines, there are also various factors that can trigger this. These includes what you eat and drink. There are certain foods that when combined with other migraine-causing triggers can worsen the situations. So, here are the foods you need to avoid because they can trigger migraines.

1. Caffeine

It is found out that caffeine can be used to stop a migraine that is just beginning. However, if you drink too much of these like coffee, tea, cola and other caffeinated beverages, it may cause palpitations and sleeplessness which can trigger headaches and migraines.

2. Cheese

Cheese that has already been for a long time can cause headache. This may be due to a substance called tyramine that forms as the proteins in cheese break down. The older the cheese, the more tyramine it contains. 

3. Chocolates

Chocolate is thought to be the second most common trigger foods for migraines. Like coffee, traces of caffeine and beta-phenylethylamine can also be found here. Maybe a small bite or two is already enough.

4. Processed meats

Highly processed meats such as bacons, hotdogs and ham contains lots of salt, artificial flavors, preservatives and sodium nitrates to preserve flavor and color. Too much salt can cause dehydration in our body. And when our body lacks water, migraines can happen.

5. Salty Foods

Salty foods may contain harmful preservatives especially junk foods and fast foods and these can trigger migraines to some. Consuming high levels of salty foods can increase blo0d pressure which can also cause migraines and headaches.

6. MSG

MSG or monosodium glutamate is a food additive used to enhance food flavor. It is commonly found in frozen foods, canned soups , salad dressings, processed meats, etc. It has been reported that MSG can cause blo0d vessels to contrict and narrow which can result to headaches and migraines.
